Teach Soap

Is it possible for a bar of MP to produce ash while it is drying? Some of my bars have what really looks like ash on them! It isn't the film that appears when they get a little moist either, as the room they are in is super dry.

I have never head of this. Did you maybe forget to spray them w/ alcohol? I have done this a time or two. Did you maybe add something that could be causing this? Hmmmmmm, now I have to see if maybe someone knows!! SoapBuddy where are you? Lol

It possible that it's microscopic bubbles that came to the surface and dried there. I have never seen MP soap with ash.

Whatever it is, it wipes right off like ash. It has formed on all of my Stephenson's shea base soaps. I know it isn't bubbles, it really does seem like the ash on my CP. Might have to break out my microscope!

Is it like a crystal fuzz looking thing?

I've seen some mp do that when I heated it too hot during melting.

Nope, looks like felt. Appeared on the soap about a month after I made it.

Nope. I checked that, not mold. Once I get my stains I can stain it and pop it under the scope. Maybe it is just dried out or something?

Hi,
I'm new to the site, but I think I may have run across this before. One of my suppliers used to sell a m&p that would get a frosted look to it when left out in the air. It would look like the frost on your lawn in the fall time, but it was just crystalization. Is that similar to what is happening to you? Sorry, I can't direct you to any sort of description, but this was a characteristic of this particular soap. I've only had one place where I have seen that sells this kind of m&p and they have not sold it for years. With a little creativity, you can use this characteristic to your advantage, such as creating a winter or fall "frosted" soap.
