Teach Soap

I am making M&P soaps and some of them need a little cleaning up with a tool. How do you handle the soaps without leaving unsightly fingerprints or smudges on them?

I use very thin latex gloves

I use vinyl gloves (I figured vinyl would be better just in case a customer is allergic to latex)

Thanks for the replies. Don't the gloves leave smudges? Any ideas on what to do about soaps I have already "soiled"? Can they be saved or should I just keep them for personal use?

I have found that spraying a spritz of the alcohol cleans up some of the more mild smudges. ive done that for photoshoots that looked smudgy or cloudy. . . .it prolly wouldnt work if the fingerprints are 'melted" into the soap. . . . (make sure all alcohol has evaporated before storing/wrapping)

I asked some advice from friends regarding a batch of soap i felt turned out "bad" and wether i should sell them or discount them or jsut toss / give away - - - and thier advice was great in my opinion - that it is part of the handmade/homemade factor that many people look for regarding crafts. its art. and its unique. they told me never to discount my own work as it discounted the value of the homemadeness and the time and energy i put into it.

Hi, lotusfairy. To get rid of fingerprints, I usually spritz my finger with some rubbing alcohol and then run my finger over the surface of the soap in one direction to make it smooth again. I think I've also heard of buffing the soap with a pair of pantyhose to get rid of fingerprints, but I've never tried that. I also pick up my soaps with waxed paper to avoid fingerprints.

Thanks for the replies. I have used alcohol and even wiped my finger across the soap this week. Great minds think alike I guess! I just don't want to sell anything with fingerprints. Thanks everyone for all the great advice.
