Teach Soap

Ive read and researched about mica spotting and have tried a few different techniques - glycerin, alcohol, both, and using the little battery mixer, but im still getting spots in my purple soaps. the forum wouldnt let me post a picture - but its too big or soemthing. lol

Im still experimenting and learning but i only seem to have this problem with the ultramarine violet mica - any reasons or advice on how to prevent this from happening would be most appreciated!

Hi, Ameya. I usually put a few spritzes of rubbing alcohol into a bowl or cup and then add my oxide and mix it into a slurry. I add a couple more spritzes of alcohol if it's still too dry or clumpy. I like it pretty liquid-y before I add it to my base. Then I stir it well with my base and spritz the surface with rubbing alcohol again before pouring. Even with careful mixing, I may get a speck or two of oxide show up in my soap, but it is minimal. (Come to think of it, I think I remember seeing a couple of specks with the ultramarine violet oxide, too.)

I believe it was soapbuddy who taught me this about color mixing.

This is for Cold Processed soap.
UltraMarines use distilled water to liquify
Mica (Starts with an M like marine) use water to liquify
Oxides use for m and pour use glycerin in smallest amount possible.

This is for M and P.

Mica and the UltraMarines go into a glass dish and with a spritz of alcohol or when you feel confident, right on top of the melted soap and spritz it with 91% alcohol just enough to liquify it. I use a small frother to mix the color in.

For Oxides I use the smallest amount of glycerin possible to mix the oxide with and then add to the melted soap base. Use a mini whip or frother to mix in.
