Hi,
If I add titanium dioxide to an olive oil MP base, will it turn it white?

It definitely should make it opaque, but I'm not sure about the proper usage rate.

Hi, einnoc. You can add titanium dioxide to the olive oil base soap just like you would any colorant. If you're using the liquid colorant, just add it drop by drop until you get the effect you like. If you're using powder, start with a small scoop and work out the clumps with a little bit of rubbing alcohol or glycerin, and then add it to your base (you can always add more if you need to).

I wonder, though, if you would have some trouble achieving a true white since the olive oil base has a golden tint to it. It should make it opaque, but it may still have a bit of a yellowish color. (I've never added TD to the OO base myself, so I can't say for sure.) I'd try it with a just a small amount of base to test it first before doing a a big batch to see how you like it.

The white was created by adding about one heaping mini scoop of TD to my olive oil/aloe base. I had mixed it in with a bit of glycerin before adding to the base...

Thanks for the info & for sharing!

I used the TD like SB suggested. I added my violet first and got the color I wanted & then I added the TD.

It worked great!

I don't think I will buy white base anymore. I will just buy clear and add the TD if I want.

Do you think this works the same way with a Shea Butter base - to just add some Shea Butter to another base and viola! there's Shea Butter base?

Can't do that with Goat's Milk tho - I guess.

You can add shea butter to your base, just don't exceed 1 TBS. per lb. of base.
