Hi everyone. I'm enjoying making salt bar soaps but am up against a little issue I've noticed. I've been packaging/wrapping the salt bars using nashvillewraps greenway compostable cello wrap because I really wanted to be as ecofriendly as possible. I've noticed on some salt bar soaps some bit of moisture occurring. Tiny beads of sweat after about 2 months. I'm not sure if it's how I'm wrapping the soap or the material or even the size of the salt.

Here is a link to one of my soaps wrapped http://www.etsy.com/listing/57174476/ap ... t-bar-soap. I wrap it like a present with extra material on the side <so it's like having flaps> wrapping it around to the back. Taping it down, then putting the sticker on the back. The sticker does not cover the entire back of the soap. I used to now tape it down and thought perhaps I need to do that to ensure the cello is closed on the back side. But now I'm thinking that hasn't made a difference. This is not happening on all the bars so I don't know if the fragrance may play a role?

I was curious as to whomever makes salt bars how you wrap and what kind of wrapping material you are using and how long your soaps make it before this kind of 'moisture' appears. Or it never appears? I'm going to call Nashville wraps and ask them to send me some over their regular sample cello and wrap bars in that to see what happens. I put the bars in a plastic bin away from sunlight when storing. My husband thinks I should put the salt bars after they are wrapped in those ziploc freezer bags as an experiment.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
Hilary

Are you shrink wrapping - like heat sealing?

Salt draw moisture to it. Most soaps I have made with salt always sweat and draw moisture to themselves. The only way I've seen to be able to be rid of that is to seal the salt within the soap - so make the salt soap and then basically dip it in another few layers of soap or embedd it in a similarly sized bar (only slightly larger).

No heat sealing. Just taking the cello and wrapping it like a present. I'm wondering if the salt is too large? I had some med to coarse salt and used a processer to get it finer. But it's a mix of fine and medium now. I'm just at a loss. Thanks Anne - Marie.

I make dead sea salt and activated charcoal soaps. They always have moisture so I let them sit out for a whole day with no wrapping. Then I wipe them off good and wrap with plastic wrap. No problem so far.
