Help I am a newbie and recently tried to make some little cupcakes. The bottom half is supposed to be chocolate and top layer pink icing.
I followed the inctructions but used clear M&P instead of obaque. They were fine untill I but them in a cupboard and now the top layer has turned brown!!

Can any one tell me what I have done wrong?

I was hoping (after more practice) to sell some at my local toddler group to raise funds for them but can't if this is going to happen every time.

One last thing, I am sooooo excited to join this soap communitie you all sound so nice and extremely knowledgeable.

Maybe the colors mixed together or if u used a fragrance with vanilla and no stablizer that would turn it brown but I'm a beginer as well so I'm. Not sure

Yes I used just cocoa powder in the bottom half and vanilla perfume oil and pink colour (deffinatly for soap) in the top half.

Could it have been the perfume oil ? Should I have used vanilla fragrance specially for soap?

Yes you should use fragrance ment for soaps the contents of thr vanilla purfume could effect your skin or anyone vanilla changes everything to tan or brown a good site for fragrances is bumbleberry and you also would need a vanilla stablizer to keep the soaps from changing color:)

Hi, Luca,

Yeah, it sounds like you used a fragrance oil that contains vanilla. Vanilla will turn your soap brown unless you use a vanilla color stabilizer. Bramble Berry sells one: http://www.brambleberry.com/Vanilla-Col ... P4156.aspx

Stabilizer keeps your soap looking white, but keep in mind that if the fragrance oil contains a lot of vanilla, it may still discolor some. For example, in my experience the Buttercream and Snickerdoodle FO turns a creamy beige after a few weeks even with VCS. It would have discolored to a much greater extent without the VCS, however.

Usually, the vendor will give you a heads-up if the fragrance oil contains vanilla or discolors. If it discolors tan to dark brown, it's probably got vanilla in it. I use the vanilla color stabilizer in equal proportions to the fragrance oil, and I mix it with the FO in a little bowl before adding it to my base.

This Soap Queen TV video is very helpful for learning how to use the vanilla color stabilizer: http://www.youtube.com/user/soapqueentv ... -KjcS-L2Sg

Hope that helps!
