Teach Soap

Hello,

I attended a soap convention last summer, and a seller there presented a program indicating she used photos of folks and put them in m&P inside enclosed pieces of clear material. I know I have seen water soluable paper,please explain the best way to make this soap. I need to make 100 soaps for a wedding shower. I am pretty new and I am not sure if I am good enough to do the paper correctly.

I'm just guessing, but I'd say the method would be something like get the water soluble paper, pour the soap 1/2way and cool, place the photo or whatever, then pour the other half. Make sure you have a reputable source for your clear, and that it's really, really clear. You may also want to do some testing to make sure your FO doesn't discolor, or use an additive to prevent that from happening.

T hanks so much for your quick answer. I always get my clear base fromBB and have been very pleased with the results. I plan on using Champagne scent from BB. I am not sure if it discolors or not---will have to exiperment to find out.

I've also heard of people laminating the photos so they won't fall apart upon usage. Although, I think having a piece of laminated paper would be really annoying when you're trying to wash your hands if it's sticking out a little bit.

BrambleBerry sells a particular paper that dissolves with use in water. You can use this particular paper in your printer then cut out words and put them in your soaps. Perhaps you could try this with photos. I think it would be worth a try.

there are few threads about this technique from the past:

I would recommend testing it first, to get a hang of it. To day, the biggest challenge (for me) was to get pictures in without getting them to float, or have any air bubbles. Because those will look bad.

Make sure you take your water soluble paper to a local Kinko's or Office Max shop, and ask them to print it fro you on their laser Xerox (Fiery) printer. Colors come out bright and vivid, but most importantly, those colors won't run in your soap.

I also was using SLS-free base (with BB carries), and found that the yellowish cast is just too much. I am not sure what type of clear base you use, but I would recommend getting something ultra clear for embedding photos and pictures.

Depending on your mold .....If you run it face down, you'll want to pour a very thin clear layer first- cool slightly. Then place your picture on top (face down), spray liberally with alcohol. Then pour your base layer over it. I've poured both ways with the clear on the bottom and pictures facing down, as well as poured base first, then photo and then clear- depends which way you prefer.

I've found if I spray liberally with alcohol, then pour my base slowly I don't get floaties....
