Teach Soap

Hello everyone!

I'm still trying to get to grips with swirling and out of the few times I've attempted it, it's either been a complete failure or ok...ish.

I'm working on a soap loaf idea at the moment, but it will involve swirling 3 different colours. I'm just a bit worried about jumping on in and doing it in case I mess it up. I've watched the Soap Queen TV episode on swirling about a million times, but I don't really want the layered swirls if you get what I mean. So I'm thinking do I just pour in the main colour, then pour in the remaining two and give it a swirl? Or should I do it maybe half of the main colour, then add half each of the remaining two, let it form a skin then repeat?

Any tips would be appreciated!

Get your temps down to about 120 f.... get your three soaps ready beside you... pour a little of one, then a little of the 2nd, then a little of the third ... all in sort wavy lines, moving your jug as you go... randow as you like. Spritz and go back and to 1, 2 and 3 again and repeat.

The trick is to get the soaps not too hot that they melt into each other and not too cold that they don't adhere.. make sure you spritz. Do it in a little mould first, just a tester (though I personally find small moulds too limiting).

It'll take time to get the knack of it but you'll get there.

Sometimes, at the end, when the mould is full, I get my skewer and push it though the layers and give it a little squiggle. Sometimes not.. just see what feels good.

Yes I've tried in a small mould before and it didn't really work (well it did, kinda, but like you said, I found it limiting). I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just go for it in a loaf mould!

Afraid so ... but that's no bad thing really!!! The beauty of swirling is that you never quite know how it's going to work out, it can sort of create itself at times so, no matter how it goes, you're gonna like it! And remember, even ugly soaps can find a home (not that they'll be ugly - I predict quite the opposite!)
