Teach Soap

I came across a beautiful round piece of MP that had real fruit embedded inside- it was so cool and I would love to try to do it but can't find anything on it...has anyone done this?

Are you sure it was REAL fruit? I can't imagine it could be for several reasons - primarily because it would rot very quickly and produce toxins that would be deeply unpleasant for your skin. Also it could discolour horribly very quickly. I can only imagine that it was a soap that looked like fruit but wasn't actually fruit. You can get moulds that are fruit shaped and that's what I imagine is embedded in the rest of the soap.

That is exactly what I thought too but she was clasiming it was real. It was at a booth so I didn't question it as much as I probably should have.. What if it was freeze dried?

Already got an answer. Here you go:

"Hi, the fruit is a very thin slice that we cut first and then we dried. We make a treatment against bacteria and other things. We keep it with no air until we use it. In the soaps, some of the fruits get a little darker because of the air contact, but besides that we have never have a problem with mold. We started making these soaps in 2001 in Latin America and we've been improving since then. We have seen some of these soaps in a friend's house 5 years later, and the fruit still is there with no problem. Of course they do not have any fragrance, even though our friend insisted that they still smell, they did not. But 5 years is a long time to have a soap".

Soooooooooooo....they preserve the fruit before use.

She also lists her ingredients as:
vegetable organic glycerin, natural dehydrated organic orange, orange essential oil and orange colorant

And we all know there's more to glycerin soap than just glycerin.

Very cool looking soaps though
