Teach Soap

Hi Soapylove, I love your eyeball soap and tried to make some this afternoon. I have the sphere mold and all the supplies (BB), but when I filled the sphere with my syringe, the white M&P spread sideways instead of going up leaving me with half an eye that looked as though it was melting. What am I doing wrong? I used rubber bands, but maybe not tight enough? Congratulations on your book. I can't wait to get my copy. Thanks, Sue

Are you trying to make only a couple eyeballs or are you filling the entire mold? Mine only work if I make them all.

Redfishingirl, I would fill each eyeball with the syringe until it started to leak out a bit from the hole on the top. (the same one I was pouring the soap in) Then I went on to the next eyeball and repeated each step. I assumed that once it leaked out, that it was full. It looked like the overflow went sideways instead of filling in the other half of the sphere. Have you made the eyeballs before??

I made these-

but my process was a little different. My trays are meant for ice, and you fill the bottom half past the circles and most of the way up the lip. Then I push the top down, and the air escapes out the holes, and I clamp the two together. I'll try to do it this way and take pictures along the way. Some still need to be filled with the syringe, but it's not nearly as time consuming.

Aha!! Thank you. I know where I messed up.....At least I think so.....I'm gonna try it again tonight. Those eyeballs are just so darn cute!!

Okay- so twist my arm... I made some more eyeball soaps so I could take pics! I do mine a little different than Debbie, so here goes.
I start by dropping just a tiny bit of clear soap into the bottom of the mold.

I have previously poured black soap into a flat bottomed mold and used a tiny fondant/cookie cutter to make little circles. I spray with alcohol and embed with some more clear soap.

After that cools, I pour the colored soap on top of that.

After that cools, I pour the white soap on top of them all, filling the entire bottom of the mold until it is just below the top.



I spray liberally with alcohol, then i push the top half of the mold down. All the air, and some excess soap escapes through the holes.



Then you just have to be patient enough to wait to get them out!

You fill the entire mold, THEN put the top on and squish. And the squishing is what forms the soap into balls. THAT'S why on Soapylove tutorial, she had rubber bands around the mold. Aaaaahaaa, now I get it.

Redfishingirl - that is ingenious!! I actually drilled my holes larger so I could pour my soap into them, and fill the molds that way. I love your method, though - it must push the bubbles up and out of the mold instead of having to top them off as they cool like I do.
