Hi all! I'm getting into actual soaping, not rebatching (wow there is a name for the mess i've been making for years!) and I'd love to order my bases from brambleberry, but they all have SLS and/or the dreaded SOY! I'm planning to make some rough gemstone soaps, and was wondering if i might be able to drop "flecks" of black mica in between layers, to look like inclusions in a natural stone. I'd love thoughts on that! Also, has anyone tried using ethyl alcohol in place of isopropal? i use it in my cleaning products so i have a ready supply. Anyway, I love this forum, everyone seems so friendly, i just can't wait to get started!!

Check again...Brambleberry DOES have M&P without SLS!

And "the dreaded soy"? Can you explain a little more what you mean? I've used soy in some bars (for cold process) and they've turned out pretty nice!

Yes, you can use black mica between layers, I've not done it but I've seen it. Looks great!

Welcome to the group!

:D WELCOME!!

I was wondering the same thing (about the soy). I haven't had any bad experiences with it. Are you allergic?

Yeah, sadly I'm highly allergic to soy. It's bad enough that even the small amounts of protein or oil in soaps, not to mention all the other derivatives in cleaning products sets off a reaction for me. We won't even mention foodstuffs  So, I make everything myself lol. I'll have to look again for an SLS free base from Brambleberry, I may have missed it being half asleep. I'll have to look again, and modify my shopping/wish list heeheehee

The first few bulk bases on the Melt and Pour page do have SLS. However, if you scroll down a little bit the 'Bramble Berry Bases' do not have any SLS. :D

I saw that, which is great :D Sadly, all of the Brambleberry bases do contain Soy Protien, so I'm going to have to use a different base...BUT Brambleberry has hands down the best selection of micas I've seen anywhere! I'm going to be going nuts ordering colors to see what gives my "gem soap" the color and style I'm looking for. :) I still haven't heard any opinions/tales of using Ethyl Alcohol aka. Everclear in place of rubbing alcohol...I may just have to try it and see what happens
