I'm new to soaping, so please bear with me.
Last week I got some Bramble Berry melt & pour (shea butter). When I opened it, I noticed that it felt soft--softer than a commercial bar of soap. It felt as though it could melt in my hand if I held it for long enough. Is this typical? My house wasn't overly warm, maybe mid-70's.
Anyway, I poured my first soap (a 4-oz bar), popped it out of the mold after a few hours, then let it sit overnight. After only two showers, the soap is nearly halfway gone. I'm only used to commercial soaps, where a bar lasts for weeks. Is it typical that a bar of homemade soap will only last 4-5 showers? The soap is not sitting in water, BTW. It just dissolved over the course of use.
All this said, I LOVE the soap. It feels so smooth and moisturizing, and I love that I'm able to scent it the way I want to. I'm just kind of surprised at the lack of longevity. I'm not doing anything wrong, am I? The only things I added were color and scent.
