Teach Soap

Has anyone used that before? I have such a love/hate relationship with it, and at the point that I don't even know what to do with it anymore
Can we compare notes?

What's the problem with it? I think you recommended this to me a few weeks ago when I was looking for a more durable hard soap. I didn't order any because I didn't want to go to a new vendor. I've been ordering from BB.

But anyway, whats wrong with it? Too hard? Not hard enough? Have you tried blending it with another base?

Well, here is my experience...

It is a very hard soap, doesn't really sweat at all, can take additives nicely, lasts in the shower for a very long time. Perfect soap to fill the mold with.

Unfortunately I don't do single soap molds. I like layered soaps, and I often use trays that need to be cut. I have wasted ton of soap before I realized that my layers separate because of this hard base It just doesn't stick together. I have made some soaps with layers that didn't fall apart, but I had to pour hotter than usual, so that the layer melts into the previous layer. Still, when I cut (if I use trays), it might crack at the layer

I guess I have to get really creative, and see what can be done with it, since I still have about 35 pounds of it left
I have mixed it with goats milk, and it is softer, but still had layers separating.

You've hit upon an issue with the extra hard, no sweat bases. They are so hard that they don't layer well. One of the reason normal melt and pour is able to layer easily is because the extra glycerin in it helps the two layers stick together, sort of like fly paper. If there is no extra moisture, the soap layers draw apart from eachother because they don't have anything else to hang onto.

You could add extra liquid glycerin to the soap to try and get it to a more moist state - but then it might sweat like normal base would when left unwrapped.

Anne-Marie, do you maybe have any creative ideas for a base like this?

I mostly do C/P soaps now and when I do make M&P, I normally use loaf molds as well. But, perhaps you could look at making fancier bars using 3D molds. BB makes quite a few nice ones.

Is the French Milled the low sweat like CP base?
Or is that a harder soap?
I've done layers pretty well with the white and clear low sweat bases.
When I pour the next layer, there is usually a skin and I just spray, spray, spray with alcohol.

Knock on wood, but I haven't had any separation yet.

no, that is a different base. Low sweat (like CP) base does layer just fine, so don't worry

I thought that french milled base is just CP soap that's used for rebatch? If that's the case, you can find some at BrambleBerry too.

Soapbuddy, this one is MP. It is called "Like" French Milled (or rebatched). It is just extra extra hard, crumbles when you cut it, doesn't sweat, but doesn't layer either

I can't be 100% sure but I think that the "extra hard, french milled" from Wisteria Lane is the same as the "low sweat" melt and pour from Bramble Berry. The ingredients list looks very similar and the descriptions strike me as similar. Again, not 100% sure but I think they're the same.
