Hi, I just read that max fragrance that should be added is 1 tblsp. of Fragrance oil, per pound, or 1 teasp. of Essential oil per pound.
Why is that?
I like my soap to smell really yummy, so want to add as much fragrance as possible.
thanks for any help.

It's not 1 TBS. it's 1 oz. per lb of soap. Spoons are not accurate enough for measuring fragrances.
Some essential oils are stronger than others, so it depends. I would suggest you get yourself a scale. You'll get better results that way.

I was just going over some of my earlier recipes and found one I got from a book (before I knew about soapcalc etc). I was surprised to see I only used about 2 oz for an 8# batch due to the recipe instructions. I do have a note that I wanted to make the scent a bit stronger next time but it wasn't (and still isn't) bad as is. I now lean toward .75 to 1 oz PPO depending on the scent and the process used.

I also ran that recipe through soapcalc and was shocked to see it had a 14% Superfat!!

Still one of my favorite soaps but I have not made that recipe again.

For Melt and Pour we recommend around 1/4 to 1/2 an oz of FO per pound of soap.
For Cold Process .7 to 1 oz per pound of soap.
