Hi all - Has anyone had any luck with suspending exfoliants (poppy seeds, oatmeal, etc.) in Melt & Pour?

If you stir in your whatever, keep stirring until it gets "gloopy". Not so gloopy that you can't pour it into your mold but real close. You have to pour quickly. That is the only way I have gotten it to work. The proper word for "gloopy" is viscous. I just looked it up on another post. LOL!

Thanks Haven! I'm not going to throw out the stuff I just made, but will explain to friends & family that the next batch should be more even - instead of all the exfoliants at the bottom.

My first attempts at adding exfolients turned out the same way. I actually had people tell me they liked it because they could either use the exfoliating side or the smooth side. You do need to work quickly ones it gets thick. It starts to set up within about 30 seconds.

Same deal with me. Also when I think I've done it right and it all looks good an hour later it has still sunk to the bottom (top of soap) but to be honest it looks good with certain moulds to have the poppy seeds as decoration also. I only use poppy seeds now as oatmeal went mushy (soap porridge )

Also keep in mind how heavy the exfoliant is. Heavier ones (like poppy seeds) will be more likely to sink to the bottom than lighter ones (like ground loofah).

You also can do multiple pours to get it suspended throughout the bar. This can leave you with stripes/layers of exfoliants, but it can come out looking pretty cute.

Thank you all for your comments. After pouring my soap and the poppy seeds ended up mostly at the bottom, but some suspended, I like it. You all are right to have one side with the exfoliants & the other pretty smooth. It turned out okay for me. Thanks again, you all are so helpful.

what about whipping the soap? wouldn't that help suspension? i know it cools the soap off a lot faster...

That may help.... I just worry about whipping a bunch of air bubbles into the soap. If it gets too thick and sets up too much then alcohol will not pop them...

It may be worth a try though, after all one of the beauties of Melt and Pour is that you can always re-melt and try again!
