I love these ideas for additives! I know this topic is a bit old but if anyone's still reading it I have a question - any tips for getting proper suspension with those additives? For example, I made some "gardener's soap" today with BB's goats milk base and blue pumice, but it settled all to the bottom of the mold. Looks cool but not that practical because it will all wash away with the top layer! Any ideas?

Edit (sorry, can't delete): I just searched 'suspension' and 'pumice' on the forum and found a lot of tips. Sorry for jumping the gun by posting this question! :)

Thank you! How much chocolate chips would you use per lb of soap base? I always toss mine in and stir till it looks right but maybe I should be measuring it. Would I need germaben if I use choc chips in my natural shea butter m&p soap base?

I just put chocolate chips on the lable. Do I have to write its ingrediants? I guess I could use coco instead but those choc chips are amazing. :) Its one of my best sellers.

How much dead sea salt to lbs of soap base would be the best amount? Is it best to grind it up fine or use the larger peaces? Mine always seem to sink.

Great list - I needed some inspiration!

So with the day to myself (and after watching a few Soap Queen videos: Eco Chic and Sugar Cubes) I got to work of a few different varieties. What do you think? (in order of appearance top to bottom, left to right)

Sugar soap - 3 oz MP, 2 oz OO, 6 oz granulated sugar [more of a scrub than a soap bar]

Oats, Milk and Honey - 4 oz MP, 8 g honey, 4 g oats and 2 g powdered milk mixed into 10 g Dr. Bronner's plain liquid soap, 4 capsules vit. E [don't know if I really need the vit. E, but was worried about the milk. I read here about mixing the powdered milk with glycerin, but I didn't have any so I used the Dr. B's, I happed to have a sample size which is about 10 grams. I really like this one too for the bubbles, I don't think there's enough oats to have any benefit though. Next time, I'll grind the oats in the coffee mill and up the amount.]

Almond soap - 3 oz MP, 6 grams almond oil, 3 g almond meal, 3 capsules vitamin E [need to let the vit. E dissolve all the way next time. Almond meal is left overs from making almond milk - maybe should have added some of that too? Haven't tried this one yet.]

Organic Soap Base - a somewhat translucent palm and coconut oil base, added to the rack just to show the before and after difference.

Sage Sea Monster Soap - 6 oz MP, ~1/2 tsp Spirulina, 1 tsp calcium bentonite clay, 40 drops Sage EO [way too much EO, next time will use 30 drops. Very green, I really like this one!]

Soaps were poured in to my silicon 6-cup muffin pan. Since I was experimenting, I wasn't working hard on the presentation...good example of what soap looks like if you are tempted to NOT spritz with alcohol. Should help me remember for next time.

You don't really need to add the Vit. E. It's only an anti-oxidant, but since the MP is already made, save that Vit E for lotions or creams. I don't add more than 1 TBS of any oil or butter to my MP soap, as it can lessen the lather.

Soapbudy, that you for the tip on the vit. E.

I tried the almond bar and agree the lather was reduced, still there, but not as much, the almond meal worked as a nice, mild scrub too.

1T=14 g. Since I was making so little soap, I converted to grams so that I could scale the amount. 9 g in 3 oz of soap would be closer to 3.5 T in a lb of soap - apparently way too much! but then, measuring less than 9 g was difficult as some of the oil would stick to the container :)

In any case I had fun trying and still like my Sage Sea Monster soap the best

If I use fresh lemon juice or fresh zest in MP, will it go bad?
