Hello soaping world. I am new and having some problems not actually "some" just one.
I followed the direction to the T soap came out great looks and smells it was too good to be true.
Here is my problem the soap makes perfect lather but leaves my skin dry. I thought it was just
happening to me so i had 3 others try same issue. After rinsing off the soap skin was rough and very dry.
So bad another shower was needed.

Thus i tried adding a oil 1 tsp per lb of m.p. helped a little but i lost some of the lather.

Brand im using is bramble berry m.p. goats milk and shea butter.

Please help!! 911 newbie

Any suggestions will help

Thank You

What fragrance are you using? And at what percentage? I have very sensitive skin and both of those bases leave it soft and nice. Not rough and dry at all.

Welcome! I agree with Heather. Unscented makes for a very nice soap. Do you have hard water? Did you rinse well? If you used fragrance, is it soap safe? Some of them are only safe in candles or oil burners, but not on the skin. How did you heat up the base and what temp was it at when you poured? The more oil or butter you add to a MP base, the less lather you will have.

Hi,
I made Charcoal and Rose Clay Spa Bar, and Home Spa: Pink Salt and Shea Bath Bar. I am thinking maybe hard water, is there a way to add something to help it?

Thank You

Well, clay, charcoal and salt can be drying to the skin. If you're skin is already dry due to the weather/cold, then those ingredients would be really, really drying.
Try some of the soap base without adding anything and see how it feels.

Glycerin is a humectant, is draws moisture to the skin. The only reason it would make you itch would be if you were allergic to it. It is in ~99% of soaps (store bought detergent ones, and glycerin bases), and a good portion of lotions as well. Glycerin is in 100% of true lye/water soaps as a byproduct of the saponification process. You'd know if you were allergic to it

Just curious, but could you wash your hands with the soap, but using distilled or bottled water to rule out the hard water factor completely? That way, you would know whether or not the hard water was causing the dryness...
