Teach Soap

Hi,

My name is Katrina and I started soaping about a year ago. I made a batch of hot process soap but it went rancid. I had used it to make myself some homemade laundry detergent. I didnt realize it went rancid in the detergent so for 2 weeks I smelled this weird putrid thing. Oops! I thought it was me! I think I changed my diet and everything for a while... I finally realized what it was and I decided to go the melt and pour route. I've been doing that for about 4 months now but I think I want to go back to cold process/ hot process. Right now I'm working on a way to make melt and pour soap from cold process shavings because I want a more natural soap (Right now I use life of the party bases). I know I can get the bramble berry bases but are they really that much better? Anyone that uses them have recommendations? Any tips?

To make a quality cold process soap, you need to start with fresh oils. I have not had good luck making MP soap from cold process soap shavings. I do make my own glycerin soap, but it requires high proof alcohol, which is hard to find legally local.

Life of the Party MP base is poor quality. Once you try BrambleBerry's MP soap base, you will definitely notice a difference. I use their MP base and I like it.

Thanks, I think I might just go that route then. I was looking at the LCP bases on brambleberry and I'm VERY interested in them! Do they really sweat less? I live in Florida (in the center of the state, swamp-y) so it is extremely humid. All of my soaps sweat even when I wrap them. Do you think the LCP base will help? Thanks!

The LCP base will help, and also a good airtight wrap helps. However, sometimes in high humidity sweat happens no matter what.

I've noticed a significant difference in the amount of sweating with LCP vs. standard base. The LCP barely sweats, while the standard is coated in tiny glycerine droplets within hours. I live near the NJ coast, so lots of humidity year round.
