Teach Soap

So when I visited my boyfriend over the weekend we went up to one of his local Michaels craft stores. I have to say it was a bit sad how little they had in terms of candle/soap making compared to every other craft in the store. I did see some repackaged and some pre scored M&P in Shea and honey and olive oil etc. I also saw some very limited fragrances and colorants aside from basic tools (spray bottles and droppers and the like). I was wondering if the supplies sold at Michaels were any good. I only have used BB supplies but the shipping and wait time are massive downers. I'm a bit worried that the stuff in store is a cheap cop out and won't be as good as the stuff I use now. Has anyone tried any of the products Michaels sells?

When first starting out I was using the stuff from Michaels. To put it simply, it sucks. There absolutely is no comparison to products from places like Brambleberry or Natures Garden Candles (My 2 fave online soaping places).
The soap from Michaels has a very strong chemicalish smelling odor and felt super drying on my skin. The fragrance oils also had that strong chemicalish smell & didn't last long. The colors are fine, but more expensive than a lot of online places.

I've tried their MP base, fragrances and color and will never do that again. The quality just isn't there.

Honestly, Michael's soap and candle goods are just plain crap. The bases are difficult to use, the fragrances are way over priced for what you get, the wax is overpriced too. They have nice colour blocks and scent blocks for candles that are alright, but sometime fade or morph in different waxes (they are meant for 100% parafin I believe). I spent almost 20 years using store bought goods (used to use LewisCraft, which was AWESOME, but Michael's killed them) before I was enlightened to the world of online supply stores. SO much better.

You'll save a TON of money by getting bases and waxes etc from places like BB.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Agree with everyone, don't waste your money on Michael's soap or fragrances. If you have a Hobby Lobby, their fragrances are ok if you're in a pinch and need something that you can't wait to be shipped, but you will pay a lot for them compared to ordering online.
