In a double boiler I assume a glass lid would be adequate for cover, but if reheating to melt in the microwave would it still need a cover and what kind?

I have read that you should cover your soap in the microwave with saranwrap. Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't. I'm not really sure what the benefit is besides avoiding a potential mess and keeping the heat in. But if the point is to heat it up quicker, then I worry I might be over heating...

The purpose of covering it in the microwave is to hold the moisture in the soap as it heats. Also, make sure when you are melting in the microwave, you do it in short bursts. I generally start at 30 sec, then drop to 15, and so on.
