Teach Soap

Ever since my move, my clear base has been setting up VERY cloudy. I can't figure out what is causing it. At first I thought it was because I was working in a humid basement (actually less humid than my previous workspace), but even after trying in the kitchen (very dry!) I have the same result. I make sure to melt it slow, so no boiling. Is it just because my base is getting old? Or is there something else going on here?

I did a test, using no colors, fragrance, anything. The base didn't boil, and set up in room temp. It was clear when solid, clear when liquid, but after it sets up, it gets super cloudy.


Please help me solve this mystery!

I keep it in a large plastic container with 'locking' handles. So it's not air-tight, but it stays well protected from dust and humidity and junk.

It's possible that it dried out. Try this: add a SMALL amount of glycerin to a small amount of a melted base, then gently but thoroughly stir. Let cool.

I will try that! Unfortunately, now I can't find my glycerin, lol. It's funny when moving, the most random things go missing...
I guess I'll have to go get some more, (and then the other bottle will show up! lol).

I forgot to post an update on this! Adding glycerin did not help, still just as cloudy as it was before. I've tried just about everything at this point and I've come to the conclusion that I don't think my clear base can be saved. :C It's a shame, since I still have quite a bit left, but I'll find a use for it.

If anyone was wondering, when remelted, it goes back to being clear when liquid, then cloudy again when it sets up. Really weird! I even did it multiple times to see if it would change (and to see if I could figure out what goes wrong and when, no luck), did the same thing every time.
