I purchased the soap beveler that BB carries (mostly for my cold process soaps), but it also works for getting rid of the skin on M&P soaps.

Agreed, cover the soap while melting.

I've seen lumps even folds at the bottom when pouring the soap too cool.

The wrinkly skin at the top, is a result of the surface cooling faster than the center and possibly the rapid loss of humidity in dry weather. To fix this I made a frame of dowels and covered it in shrink wrap, basically creating a lid for my soap molds. I'm pretty sure I've discussed this elsewhere and even provided a picture of the lid, but I just don't remember where I'd have discussed it.
