I recently bought some soap paints and was wondering if they can also be used to color M&P - to put it in as colorant rather than painting it on the outside. The site of the company I purchased it from doesn't say whether or not you can, waiting on an answer from them but thought I'd ask here too.

The label says "Professional Soap Colors in a Glycerin Base". Glad you asked me, I've only used them on scraps so far, I would have been mad if I went to make labels and didn't have the ingredients! I've emailed the company to ask them that too!

I'm thinking it would be safe but they are pretty much diluted colorant so you would need much more and it may make the soap sticky/soft.

Thanks! I had looked up the company who makes them after posting and they said they can be used to color soap, but you are right about them making the soap sticky and soft. I wanted to "cheat" by using the brown soap paint for the tee in my golf ball soap because I don't have much luck trying to mix a nice brown from the colors I have. You can see that the tee is kind of "muddy" looking, it thickened and firmed up so fast it was hard to get it smooth and get bubbles out.

Any advice on mixing nice browns? I thought about using cocoa powder, but was afraid it would clump if I put it in M&P soap.

that brown looks nice. but I use a beige with black mica to get a brown.. only a tiny bit of black is required. you can always add but its hard to take colors away, hope that helps.

I don't have anything to make beige, which is why I used a fragrance with vanillin with white soap for the camo soaps so it will turn tan/beige. Did you just buy a beige color, or is there some simple way to mix it that I am clueless about, lol.

Can you use cocoa powder for brown in MP? (I use it in CP and it works perfectly.)

I was thinking about it but I wasn't sure and I was afraid it would clump if I added it directly to the melted soap base. I also wondered if I could use food grade honey. (I was looking through my cabinets, lol)

I've used Cocoa Powder in MP soap...it turned out fine. It took a little stirring but I didn't have a problem with it clumping.
