First forgive me if this is taboo! If so I will delete it.

Does anyone here ever try to copy a favorite lotion or bar? I have a moisturizer I'd like to see if I can replicate. I know I won't be exact but I'm hoping that I can get some of the good properties into something I can make.

Please let me know and I'd be happy to post ingredients. Again if this is frowned upon my sincerest apologies and I will delete!

Thanks!

We can help you formulate, but it most likely won't be identical. What are the ingredients?

I wouldn't expect it to be identical! :)

These are the ingredients:
Hemp Oil
Shea Butter
Lavender Oil
Rosemary Extract
Calendula Extract
St. John's Wort Extract
Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E)

The description says the shea butter and hemp oil are infused with Calendula, St Johns Wort and Rosemary. I don't know if they really mean infused like I've read about on here (the soaking in water) or if they used it as a figure of speech.

The product is green, a bit grainy/gritty and very thick. Almost paste-like. Very slightly oily after applied but feels great. (maybe oily because I put too much on)

I don't know if it would be considered a liquid or paste or lotion or what. They do recommend refrigerating it but I have not because I got it once the weather got colder. If it was summer I think I would have to.

Let me know your thoughts - thanks so much!

That looks like a lotion bar, but without any waxes. Unrefined hemp oil is green, so that's most likely where the color comes from. Shea butter can be grainy unless tempered. I would say it's mostly shea butter with enough hemp seed to make it paste like. You can infuse the hemp oil with herbs. It doesn't have to be infused in water. In this case it isn't water because oil and water do not mix. The refrigeration is recommended due to the short shelf life of hemp seed oil.

I would start with 80% shea with 20% herb infused hemp seed oil. You can infuse the herbs into the oil in a small crock pot or a double boiler. Or if you have the time, the herbs can be infused into the oil and let sit for 3 to 4 weeks. Strain, then use.

I got most of the stuff ordered today, except for St. Johns wort Extract and vitamin e. st. Johns seems to be hard to find and Vit E was crazy $$$$ at WSP! I should have asked it was a typo.

Should I be able to find Vit E locally or probably just the gel caps? That's all I saw at the health store but I didn't go crazy looking.

Hopefully this weekend I'll get a shot at some cp soap! I've had all those supplies for a couple of weeks now, driving me nuts to keep seeing them lol

You might be able to find St. John's Wort at your local health food store. If you don't find it, I can message you a couple of links for other online vendors. You might be able to find Vit. E in liquid form at your health food store as well.

Tocopherol is a bit pricey but panthenol (B5) is even more so.

Gave it a shot tonight! First, I am still missing the St Johns Wort and Vit E but decided to make a small batch anyway. The one I bought was only 1.25 oz so I figured I'd do a nice even ounce. I bet you can see where this is going lol

I decided to at least soften the Shea butter. Then I pulled out the used crock pot I had purchased last month (and not yet tested). I measured out 20% of an ounce for hemp seed oil and just as I'm dumping it in, I'm thinking this is way too little for this pot. I added the candela and some rosemary and the FO and it doesn't even cover the bottom. What was I thinking?

I scrape it all out into a Pyrex dish and give it a few seconds in the microwave then mix it with the Shea.

So! The smell is pretty close and that's the lavender and rosemary. It's a bit too gritty which I'll blame on the rosemary. The rosemary also gave the green color (i ended up with clear hemp as they were out of the other). And a bit too hard so I think I need more hemp oil. I'll add some hemp to this and use it till its gone then make a new batch.

Fun!! :)
