I tried making liquid soap for the first time and the recipe did not call for cooking the soap. I notice on several websites every cooked their ingrediants to make the paste. achieved the paste without cooking however its not soapy at all. can i save the batch by adding more KOA or throw it out and start all over. my ingrediants was cocnut oil, shortening, 1 oz of avocado oil, KOH. I did make a mistake and add the essential oil in the paste.

You really do need to cook it to the taffy paste stage, then dilute it. I would trash this batch and start over. Adding more KOH will make it lye heavy. If you go to Summer Bee Meadow online, they have a liquid soap calculator.

Get yourself some phenophtalein drops. A drop or two on a small piece of soap will tell you if it's lye heavy. If it turns pink, there is still lye present. If it doesn't change color, then it's ready.
