yes, you can make your own. You can use any oil that is appropriate for your end product. If you are making a salve that uses a lot of olive oil, go ahead and infuse the olive oil, or whatever other oil you choose (as long as it is one that doesn't mind the heat). The most expedient way is to put a cup or two of the dried herbs into a crock pot and cover with your oil of choice. Heat on warm or low. I have left mine on warm to infuse for up to 4 days before, or on low for 12-18 hours. Just make sure that you do not cook the oil (which will fry the herbs). Every crock pot is different, so be extra cautious until you know how yours works. I have an old one that I cannot even use on low without it over-heating even my highest fry point oil. My favorite one for infusions is one of those small, 5$, black Friday deals, with warm/low/high. It is the right size, never overheats, and gets great infusion results. The amount of oil you use, the amount of herbs, and the length of time you infuse is all up to you and how much strength you want your extract to have. I recommend using at least 1/4 portion of dried herbs to 3/4 portion oil(s), but personally I prefer a half and half solution. Good luck to you!
