I use the liquid organic soap base on a regular basis and over the last year, have probably made around 260 six ounce (scented) bottles of it. It's temperamental since it's all natural but I love using it because the ingredients are so lovely. But, the natural factor does require a bit more TLC.

I just add the EO (I rarely use an FO - almost always an EO) in small amounts and then whisk in the essential oil slowly. Mixing a 32 ounce batch takes me probably 3 minutes and then another 30 minutes to let all the air bubbles rise (from the whisking) to skim off or spray away with rubbing alcohol.

If you're having separation problems, it sounds like a usage rate thing. If too much EO is used, the base will separate apart and you'll end up with either a watery mixture or watery at the top and thick at the bottom.

The usage rate is quite low for EO's (9-12 mls of EO in 16 oz.).

I'm sorry you haven't head back from BB customer service in three months. I'll have everyone do a search in their email boxes tomorrow to see what might have happened to your email(s) =)

Hi Amanda -

I got the Tea Tree EO to blend it perfectly yesterday. It's clear with no oils or anything.

I see this from your notes that I found in Adrianne/Apryl's email:

<1- 8 ounces of base goes into a Pyrex measuring cup that has been washed and sanitized

2-Next, I warm it in the microwave in 20 second intervals on high.

3-Once the glass is warm to the touch (thus believing the liquid is warm, too), I add the eo or fo I'm working with, and stir it in gently with a brand new bamboo skewer, doing my best to avoid bubbles by stirring slowly.

4-I cover the Pyrex cup with saran wrap and wait for it to cool to room temperature. And every time, I see that thin layer of oils has settled on the top of my liquid soap. I can see it even moreso when I stir or shake the container, because you get those wispy little tendrils throughout the soap base. *sigh*

Can you tell me a bit more about your usage rates? I see a few notations about 8 to 10 drops per 8 ounces of soap - is that the correct amount? I think that might be where things got muddled from us. I see that Apryl asked for general usage rates but I can't find a response in her in-box. But we're chatting now so that's good. =)

I don't warm mine in the microwave and just slowly whisk in the EO so those are a couple differences from when I mix up the base. Also, I use more like 6 mls in 8 ounces for my EO usage rate in the base.

I'm looking forward to working with you to get to the bottom of this so you can use your base and love it.
