Trying to find a recipe for an astringent that does NOT have rosewater! Anyone know any sites I should check out? Need one that removes oil but is also gentle. Tired of paying $50 a month for Clinique.

Can you use plain witch hazel? There is also witch hazel hydrosol that doesn't have any alcohol.

I tried Witch Hazel but it was quit drying. I haven't tried to alcohol free one though. I am looking for a good astringent recipe as well.

Okay, here are some of my favorite astringents, speaking as an herbalist.
Oak bark, which contains tanic acid that makes a nice astringent, acorn husks make a good astringent too, and make a nice brown wool dye so they might turn whatever you have a dark brown.
Yarrow, it makes a great astringent and has a lovey spicy herbal odor. Now is a good time to harvest and dry the flowering tops and leafy stems.
Anything containing salicylic acid, chiefly willow bark, meadowsweet, wintergreen, yellow birch bark.
There are so many astringent herbs out there I could go on and on, but if you want a pure chemical that acts as an astringent both salicylic acid and tanic acid should be somewhat easy to find.
