ANyone know how to make the FO last longer on my skin? I am testing some lotion base while trying to find my own recipe and I only put a small amount in cause I wasn't real big on the scent. Putting just a little in the lotion made the scent quite pretty and I really like it now but it doesn't last long once on my body! My thought is to sell this eventually and I don't want my customers to have this trouble :)

How much scent to how much lotion did you use? Which FO?

I normally use 1 oz. of FO to 16 ozs, of lotion. I would try another FO.

Are you positive that it still isn't smelly on your skin? Or could you be possibly suffering from smell saturation? Saturation and fading is when we are exposed to one smell for a long time. It disappears from our conscious awareness. It doesn't actually take long at all for some scents to do this. It can actually take as little as minutes of constant smelling for our brain to not recognize the smell any longer. Mr. Wizard once did a neat experiment on olfactory sensory and habituation.

But like Irena said, it could possibly also just be a weak scent. Which one was it?

If I had to guess I would say it might just be a little of both actually. I know I didn't put that much scent in but could quite likely be my mind tuning it out :) Maybe I should ask my 10yr old if she can smell me !

are you sure that your customers would like the fragrance to last on their skin?
I mean most people (at least it's the case in Germany) do not want their cream or lotion overpower their perfume or mix with perfume they're using.
from a marketing point of view, the lotion should smell good when the customer tests it and it should leave a pleasant smell during application and shortly after that, but I'm not sure if the lotion should replace perfume and the fragrance should last long

However, from a general point of view, it should be due to the interaction of the fragrance with one of your ingredients.
Have you tried to stabilize the fragrance with Patchouli oil? Take care Patchouli is very intensive and you need very small quantities

I tend to agree with what Inspiration said. Over time we have got feedback indicating that yes, people do like a nice fragrance, but no, they don't want it to compete with their regular perfume.
What I did, I made versions in all sorts of fragrances and tested them on a panel of users in the form of free samples. I ended up choosing a locally available fragrance that is a copy of Ed Hardy's female fragrance. It's been very popular. I use it at a 1% dilution. The same dilution also works well in shampoo, although I would never use Ed Hardy in that; instead it is fruits and flowers.

I typically fragrance my leave on products at 1%. Hair products at 1-2% depending on the fragrance.
