I tested a particular FO, it's basically like a pear with a hint of apple. Very nice fresh aroma. I won't mention the name because it is a new product. The test basically consists of emulsifying a sample using sodium cocoamphoacetate, then adding water, then as necessary, ALS (anionic) and noting when a clear result obtains.
So, based on this I made up a 2L test batch using it, and everything was fine, until I checked the pH and found it was slightly over 7. So, I added a few grams of citric acid to lower the pH to 6. The shampoo turned milky. I did some tests on it and the FO seems to have properties similar to an indicator in that it turns clear only at pH 7 and above. Bummer. That one's off the list now.
