Teach Soap

I found some anti-bacterial base online, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with making their own anti-bacterial hand lotion? It's the standard clear, alcohol based gel you find in any store, but unscented and uncolored.

The website says you can scent and color it, and it's certain that you can suspend jojoba beads, but does anyone have any notes about percentages and appropriate materials and stuff? I haven't been able to find much online about it, which makes me think it's way harder than using a lotion base. I'd hate to make a batch of strawberry, and then have my hands turn red. But, I also hate spending upwards of $5.99 for the peach stuff I get at B&BW.

Wow, I just saw this written on the bottom of their site:

"for lotion base and other unscented bases you can try Essentials by Catalina. - their prices are much higher and in our opinion there quality is not as good as our bases, plus there site is very cluttered in our opinion.

-for soap base and soap making supplies you can try Pvsoap - their quality is pretty good, but their prices are very high. Site is cute but in our opinion a bit hard to navigate."

A little unprofessional as a supplier.

That is tacky. I've used Essentials by Catalina for years. Can you actually claim your product is anti-bacterial? Would that according to the FDA be an over the counter drug or a cosmetic with different rules and regs? Has this company done any actual testing and they can send you a copy of the test results?

It is super easy to make anti-bacterial gel. And very very cheap. You just combine ethanol with Carbopol polymer (from 0.5 - 1% is typical) and neutralise with TEA. That's it. The polymer will suspend anything. I'd probably include some vitamin E at about 0.5% The antibacterial activity is from the alcohol.
