So the lotion we were making before seemed more light and fluffy, we have not changed much, the percent of ewax went up about 1-2% and we had dec the amount of oils a few % and added more water to compensate. The total amount of ingredients has not changed but the more recent batches of lotion are making HALF the amount the previous one did.
Could changing the % of ewax by such a small amount effect the fluffiness of the lotion that much? It seems like we have a much denser lotion.
The only other thing is we changed a little the way we were whipping it (we were setting the bowl of hot lotion in a bowl of ice while whipping to cool it quickly but stopped b/c didn't know where we read to do that and it seemed like it wasn't necessary). So other than ingredients has anyone seen a change in lotion texture/feel just from a change in the process of mixing/whipping it?

Mixing and whipping can change the texture, especially if it's cooled fast. 1-2% e wax can also change the consistency.

Sounds to me as if you were selling 50% air bubbles, before . . .

I sell some whipped preparations, but always by weight, not volume?

Yeah, I liked the fluffy feeling though, it went on so silky and now it is so thick and heavy, not what I was after for a summer body lotion, would be better as a winter elbow/hand cream.
Gonna have to play around some more.
Just out of curiosity, what percent of oils do you all like to use in your body lotions?
I think we are using 15% now.

Mine are all butters and oils, since my customer base prefers no preservatives. I've used Shea and cocoa butter, with olive or avocado. But I can't find any good Shea lately. It's all hard as a rock and doesn't whip up like the softer stuff. If I melt and whip, it still hardens, and feel like merangue rather than buttery. I'll have to branch out and try one of the expensive mango or other butters.
