I made my first bath bombs yesterday, using a recipe i found here on the teach soap site. I had success! I was really worried that I would have a crummbly mess of bicarb and citric acid but it is now rock hard and smells yummo!

Few questions for those in the know please :)

1) Can you use mica to colour them? Or I have read somewhere about food dye but im worried about it leaving a stain on the tub etc. I know there are special bomb colours but I already have both liquid MP & CP soap colours, candles colours, micas, ultramarine and oxides, I really dont want to purchase more unless i have to.

2) Whats the best way to wrap these little babies for sale?

3) How difficult/easy are those sphere shaped molds for bombs? Think I will invest in some in th enear future.

Thanks

Congrats! I use FD&C soap colors in small amounts so they don't stain the tub or micas. I would not use candle colors.

Thanks Soap Buddy, I did not mean that I had considered using candle colours, just to illustrate my point of view on all the different colours i had for various products ;)

You're welcome. I didn't get a chance to finish what I wanted to write. I would try shrink wrap to keep moisture away. In humid climates they can start off on their own. I use a meat baller. I tried the plastic spheres, but over time, they got etched with the fragrance and that would make them stick.

I bought all of the stuff to make bath bombs, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm going to forego the balls and just use molds for now.

curious... just how small of a mold can be used and still have them hold together and fizz?

Thanks Genny, I have this on my list of things to try...using a mold would be more my style, maybe a little more fun. With all I want to do, this may have to be my fall project. If only I did not have to work!?

I ended up buying a round mould for the bombs and i love it, its the type that fits together like a sphere. I also purchase some bath bomb colours, gave in. I only got 3 colours though so off course I want more now.

i wonder if glitter will work in bath bombs or if it will just be lost in the mixture? hmmm.... might need to experiment...

Glitter totally shows up and sticks to the skin when used in the bath. I'm all about it, but I do have to share that if you have too much glitter in your mix, it will affect the sticking of the bomb as it is made. I add a small amount to the mix but then shower it in glitter as it is drying. Hope that helps!

You are all tempting me to make bath bombs... It's a terrible sickness!

That glitter idea sounds like fun!

I just got stars and a tiki head ice cube trays from the dollar store last week! They worked amazing for bathbombs! I wish I could soap today, but I'm babysitting three kids plus my own year old. Tonight I will be though, I have more fragrances coming. (I'm not addicted or anything)
