"Spectrastat is a complete broad spectrum preservative-free system. It combines the paraben-free preservation of caprylyl glycol and the anti-fungal activity of a novel patented organic acid, CHA. The organic acid in Spectrastat provides superb results against A. Niger, even at neutral pH. Spectrastat's biostatic agents have terrific efficacy and can completely preserve both emulsions and surfactant systems. The components of Spectrastat are non-toxic, globally acceptable, and are ideal for paraben-free and "preservative-free" claims."

We've adopted this preservative for our line (replacing a parabens/urea system) and early results are very good; the added emollient properties gave the Body Milk product in particular, extra 'glide' on application and the customers reported that they much preferred it. Typical usage is 0.8%

We've only produced one batch so far, and it is about two weeks old, no problems. I want to have the whole range changed over before I test it against A. Niger and a few nasty bacteria like staph. The product feel is definitely improved; the customers noticed the difference. The only snag I've noted so far is that at room temps of 20C or below, it tends to separate into a lumpy gel, but a warm water bath soon fixes that. It has a faint 'fruity' aroma, thank goodness. I didn't want a preservative that smells nasty.

I hope you get the lumpy gel figured out because I don't think a customer would go to the trouble of putting it in a warm water bath. Heck, they don't even read most labels.
