Hey all!

In the next few weeks or so, I'm planning on taking that next creative leap to bath fizzies and fizzy salts, specifically. But I had questions about recipes intermingling and causing a big mess, as that would be the thing to avoid, lol.

I currently make bath salts for myself, as I have fibromyalgia, and often need a good soak to help my muscles relax. The current recipe I use is this:
1 cup Epsom Salt
1/2 cup Sea Salt
1 Tbsp Dendritic Salt
1 tsp Fragrance Oil
and colorant (glycerine dispersed powders from TKB)

This little recipe works very nicely for me thus far. But I'm wondering if it will set off a reaction if mixed with the fizzies from the recipe below:

1 cup Baking Soda
3/4 cup Citric Acid
2 Tbsp White Kaolin Clay
1 Tbsp Grape Seed Oil
2 tsp Poly Sorbate 80
Vitamin E Oil
1 tsp Fragrance Oil
1/4 tsp Borax Power
1/4 tsp Gel Colorant
12 Spritzers Of Alcohol

So long story short....Would it be alright to combine the bath fizzies with my perfumed and colored salts after the salts cure and dry? Or would it cause a reaction, and should I leave the salts completely out?

And, would any of the salts above attract moisture that could attract moisture to the salts, therefore possibly setting off an accidental reaction?

I hope you don't mind me asking so many questions...I just want to be sure before I buy what is, or might not be, necessary. ^.^

Ooooh, did you get that recipe off a YouTube video? I swear I have that exact one written down!

I've tried one batch and it worked yeah! I couldn't get my two ball halves to stay together, but I think that's just something that I need to master as it doesn't matter what recipe I use I can't get them to stay together lol.

I didn't use the Borax Powder though... don't think it's necessary (IMO) and I have this issue with putting laundry items in a bath bomb hehe.

They fizz SO well in the bath though!! :)

Glad to know the recipe works well then! I wondered if it panned out to be the same. lol I'm not sure if I could form bath bombs or not, so I hoped to at least have them to mix with my salts, provided my salts don't ruin the mix.

I would convert that recipe to weight. You'll get more accurate measurements that way if you find something that you like and want to make it exactly the same way again. I would not use borax in a bath bomb either.

It should be noted here that borax is a naturally occurring water softener. It is not a laundry product save that it can be used to soften the water and subsequently make your detergent more effective, lather better, etc. It will have the same effect on any bath products you make because it will have the same effects for them as it does in the case of laundry detergent. Your recipe won't fall flat without it, but it could be more luxurious WITH it due to the water softening properties it has.

Borax is also traditionally used in old fashioned metal smithing. When placed between two pieces of forge-heated metals and hammered, borax super-heats and joins the metals together. This was especially important in forging strong weaponry in ye olden times. Just a little chemistry trivia for ya! ^_~

I use borax in my baths all the time. It was suggested by my dermatologist for my eczema and karatinosis (ULTRA dry skin, feels like a metal rasp  ) The borax, when mixed with a powdered oatmeal and EO, penetrates the skin and helps moisturize deeper layers rather than just the surface. It works pretty well :D I usually use a chamomile EO because it smells soooo good, and is calming for dry skin itchies.
