Hey all!

I had questions about Solid Perfumes at one point, as I make everything in small, personal batches. I wondered about using fragrance oils, how much, etc... Well, I thought I'd post back sharing the recipe I used and enjoy.

Firstly, I used the tins from Sunburst bottles shown They're labeled "LBT" and have a half ounce reservoir. You can use whatever container you wish, but I like having the larger portion, as it's easier to fill and refill for a personal size. But feel free to adjust the below to fit your own personal needs.

But the recipe goes as thus:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 tsp white beeswax beads
1 tsp sweet almond oil
1 tsp refined white and deodorized shea butter
1/4 teaspoon fragrance oil
Yields 1 tin of Solid Perfume
1. Using a double boiler, place a small Corelle bowl approximately 3-4 inches wide in the bottom of the top-dry pan. Place 2 teaspoons of beeswax in the Correlle dish. Stir as needed with a bamboo skewer to keep the wax moving on the heated surface.
2. After beeswax beads are melted, add 1 teaspoon sweet almond oil into the bowl. The mixture will start to harden up when the cooler temperature oil is added, but keep stirring until it melts into the mixture.
3. Add to the bowl 1 teaspoon shea butter. Stir the butter in the bowl with your skewer until it is completely melted.
4. After all of your mixture is completely melted, add in your chosen fragrance oil. Again, the mixture will start to harden slightly, but keep stirring until the mixture is smooth. After everything is at a smooth, melted texture, lift the bowl with a pot holder and pour into your tin. Let tin stand until the mixture has cooled and hardens.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I used sweet almond oil instead of jojoba oil since there is a shortage of it currently, driving up the price. Also, sweet almond oil is pale in color, so it still gave me a clean looking product, without a golden hue. But over all, I'm happy how this turned out. The recipe leaves your fingers feeling smooth and non-greasy. Just a lovely texture!

If you need help finding these ingredients, you can find them at Brambleberry, as well as TKB Trading. Those are just two websites I know for certain carry all the items. And either website is wonderful in price!

Thank you. I would convert those measures either into grams or ounces. That way your recipe will come out exactly the same each and every time.

Thanks so much for this recipe! I LOVE this jamine and bamboo FO I have! Can't wait to make it into a perfume! Also a great idea for gifts for folks who love specific scents :mrgreen:

I made my first tin of this just now. Below are some pics =D I changed the recipe to grams from teaspoons and noticed that it makes quite a bit more than enough to fill a 1/2 oz tin! When I make more later I will play with the recipe to get it to fit the tin a bit better!

Here is the recipe in grams:
8g white beeswax beads
3g jojoba oil
4g white refined shea butter
2g FO

I started out with a small dish inside the double boiler as the recipe above states, and after 10 mins the beeswax was just barely starting to melt! So I decided to move it to just the double boiler boil and it melted almost instantly! The perfume is nice; light scent and non-greasy.

The pictures!

The beeswax in the bowl. This is the way that did NOT work, the little dish just didn't get hot enough to melt the wax properly.
Image

Here is how I measured out my ingredients, the empty one was the one that had the beeswax.
Image

After the glass bowl was removed the wax melted quickly, this is after everything is all mixed together!
Image

And here is the tin, the perfume is actually convex in there and there was about 3g left in the bowl.
Image

The perfume is currently sitting on my counter solidifying. Smells super nice! This one is Jasmine and Bamboo FO from Canwax. I will play with the recipe later and post the best weights and ingredient ratios for filling the tin without the left overs!

Do you think using OO instead of jojoba and using an EO instead of a FO would work?

I used the jojoba because I already had some! Mine wasn't too expensive either maybe $8 for 250ml. But the site no longer carries it.

Jojoba oil's price went through the roof! When the gallon that I have here is gone, I'm going to reformulate without it.

Are solid perfumes the same exact thing as a solid lotion/massage bar? Do you just name it differently or is there a higher fragrance content for the perfume?
