Teach Soap

Does anyone have a recipe for liquid castille soap? I did run it through a lye calculator but being a beginner it did not tell me how much water i needed and i dont know how much water i need for mixing with KOH and dissolving??

For castille liquid soap, for a small batch, you would need 16 ozs. of olive, 2.96 ozs. of lye (potassium hydroxide) and 5.76 ozs. of water. This is for 3% superfat. Then you will need more water to dilute.

Start with 12 ounces of distilled boiling water. Mix gently but thoroughly. Let sit for a bit. If needed, add 1 more oz. at a time, til you get the consistency that you want. Keep good notes. Have fun!

so this was my second time making my soap. i followed the directions, added the water at the end but it would not dissolve so i kept adding more and more water, eventually just dumping water and it finally dissolved but i am afraid i used to much water. i am not sure what i did wrong to not get it to dissolve in the first place and what do i do now that i think i used to much water, and how would i know?

Try boiling some of the water off if you added too much water. Next time keep track of how much water you add and add it in small amounts til you get the consistency that you like.
Some patience is needed.
