Hi All...

I'm looking to make an all natural deodorant for men... looking for some good recipes/advice on how to make it!

Start out with a lotion bar. 1/3 oils, 1/3 butters, 1/3 wax, then tweak it from there. I would use essential oils with antiseptic and deodorizing properties like clary sage.

could you specify more on what type of butters/wax?

then do you just melt all of them and mix together and let harden in a empty tin or something of the sort?

liquid oils = olive, almond, grapeseed, jojoba
butters = shea or mango
wax = beeswax, candelilla
Let melt, add any essential oils, mix, then pour into deodorant containers.

Here is one I like:


8 oz. sweet almond oil
2 oz. besswax
2 tsp. wheat germ oil or Vit. E
1 tsp. bergamot e.o.
15 drops tea tree e.o.
30 drops geranium e.o.
1 tsp. lavender e.o.
1 oz. white clay
1 oz. baking soda

Melt together 2 oz. beeswax with 8 oz sweet almond oil. Combine essential oils and Wheat germ oil or Vit. E. ( I used Vit. E). When beeswax and sweet almond oil has cooled, add essential oil mixture and stir well. Add clay and baking soda and stir until the mixture begins to thicken. Pour into containers.

Wheat germ oil tends to oxidize fast in lotion bars. I would use Vit. E instead. I would also convert the teaspoons into grams or ml. Just to give you an idea 3/4 teaspoon is 3.7 ml. or 3.54 grams.

Okay, this is the first place I have seen clay actually measured by weight for a recipe (thank goodness!)

Can anyone tell me how much 1 tablespoon of clay WEIGHS or how big (approximately?) 1 ounce of dry clay is? I'm trying to do estimates for purchasing supplies and I can't find anywhere that has a weight measurement for clay other than here.

The clay in this recipe was my idea, I believe the original just called for baking soda. Why not experiment with a small batch and see how it works.

I like to add the clay, I think it absorbs moisture better that way. The essential oils are supposed to aid in preventing odor along with the baking soda.

Well it is certainly a nice recipe and thank you for sharing this with us! I might give it a try, putting it on the proverbial list! LOL
