Teach Soap

I want to try making Body Butters this weekend. I have not made those yet. Does anyone have a good starting base recipe that I can play with, and anything I should look out for?

I would start out with 70% butters to 30% oils. Make a small batch and leave it be for a couple of days as sometimes that product hardens more over time. If it's too soft add more butter. Keep good notes and weigh everything, so you can repeat your success.
If it's warm where you are, there's always a chance that it might be softer or melt in transit (or a craft show).

My friend really wants me to make body butters, but we've got 110 as a low this week. Eeeek! Now I have a good reason to tell her no.

I made some body butter last night. It's really nice (used some lavender EO combos - mmmm!) but the recipe I used definitely called for a lower ratio of butters to oils than 70/30. So I'm a bit disappointed in how "melt-y" it is on the skin (stays nice and firm in the jars though). This recipe I used also has about 9% beeswax.

The butter DOES absorb after a minute or two but I think it's just too heavy (oily) for summer. So I'll be trying Irena's recommendation next time of 70/30 butters/oils ratio and possibly count the wax as my butters (even though it's not a butter).

If I use a high amount of cocoa butter (say half CB and half shea) can I still achieve a nice light/whipped texture? I know shea can be a little oily.
