I've been solar-infusing sweet almond oil with various (separate) botanicals over the last couple of weeks, intending to get both the beneficial properties and hopefully a little color. Calendula and chamomile made the oil a nice sunshine yellow, cloves made it black, tea leaves turned a very dark green, and frankincense tears and lavender have produced no color. This is all more or less expected, but one I'm surprised about is beet root powder. I put 1 or 1-1/2 tablespoons in about 6 oz and it has made no change. Did I not use enough? I know this isn't much compared to the amount I would use for an herb, but I thought powder wouldn't require as much.
What other botanicals might give sweet almond or grape seed oils some natural color? I'd love to get a purple. Alkanet?
