Hey all!

My daughter and I feel ourselves fully graduated from melt and pour soaps, and have decided to take our skills to the next level. (Not that we're ceasing soap-making, we just want to add to it. *g*)

We've decided that we're going to make her some solid perfumes to take to school in neat little compacts, that way she doesn't risk spilling perfume, nor offending others' noses by spraying or applying heavily. But I do have a question...

Our recipe has already been plotted, one found here (2 parts beeswax, 1 part shea butter and 1 part jojoba oil) but I'm not sure if fragrance oils can be used or no. Most recipes online mention essential oils, but we were wanting to use some of the wonderful perfume fragrances we've collected.

Can anyone advise? And also, can anyone give me a good idea of how much to use ratio wise for the solid perfume?

You can use fragrance oils, but only if they are skin safe. Just check with the supplier if it isn't advertised that it is. I would only use about 1-3% too. I'm a coconut lover, so I use BB's island coconut, i smell like i've been on holiday! Good luck!

For 4 ozs. of solid perfume I would start with 20 drops of a fragrance.

Each FO has a different max usage rate for skin safety. So if it is not listed on the site where you purchased it, write or call them and ask. Make sure you tell them what product you are using it in, as the amount also depends upon the type of product.
Good luck and have fun with your daughter!

I made solid perfume yesterday using 2 pt beeswax, 1 pt shea butter and 1 pt grapeseed oil. I made about a dozen different kinds, each near the max usage rate per FO or EO. It smells nice but wears off very quickly--like an hour. Is that normal?

I've been reading on several other webpages that glycerin will help lower the evaporation rate of the fragrance. They are also stating that having the top, middle, and base notes present in the fragrance will help stabilize it too. They warn to be careful of the amount of glycerin you use because it can cause a "greasy" feeling...

I haven't tried making any perfume... unless you count my attempt nearly 20 years ago when I placed a bunch of lilac flowers in some rubbing alcohol and promptly forgot about it until a couple weeks later when I found it and it was rancid and rank! Hehe... that was just some info I was finding through a quick search on the web, but also, I think it was more for liquid perfumes and I should have mentioned that...
