Which kind of clay do you prefer in a soap for oily skin?

I like French green clay. You can also use bentonite clay.

I would use about 1 tablespoon per pound of soap.

I haven't done melt & pour soap, but here is a link with some information on additives for MP. They recommend 1-2 Tbsp. per pound of soap.

I use about 1 1/2 - 2 TBSP's per lb of mp. I don't know that it does anything for oily skin in the soap though, since it gets rinsed off right away while you're washing. It gives great slip for shaving soaps, so that's what I use it for.

I think a leave on mask using clay works better for oily skin.

One of my soap books has a couple of soaps listed as good for oily skin. The first uses aloe vera oil and patchouli EO, and the other uses geranium EO and rosemary EO, which are all supposed to have astringent qualities.

For oily skin you can add Tomato powder, Rhassoul clay or the bast clay for oily skin is Fuller's Earth clay. I disagree with the others about these doing no good in soap, and studies have shown that Rhassoul and Fuller's Earth perform well on oily skin when used in soap and other products.
As for EO's, you can add the following for helping with oily skin; Fennel, grapefruit, juniper, bergamot (you must use the Furo free type),tangerine, madarin, myrtle, neroli, sweet orange, patchouli*, petigrain*, rosewood, tea tree, red thyme, and ylang ylang. Frankincense and helichrysum also have astringent properties. *= great for oily hair as well as the skin.

Much luck!
