I've used micas a couple times in bath bombs and bath salts and it leaves an awful residue in the tub. I like using the FD&C dyes/lake colors and of course, the labomb colors off BB are always highly recommended.

I have a few La Bomb colours which work great, and I've also used the Wilton gel frosting colourants. I've been testing a few and they don't leave any residue (I use a small amount which goes quite a long way) With the Wilton colours they come out a bit speckled, but I actually like the speckly-ness as it gives it more texture.

I've heard nothing by "arrggh! stained my tub and myself" stories from using micas, and heard that lab colours aren't good either.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe blue #2 & red #3 are approved for cosmetics by the fda. They're approved for food, but I think that's it.
