What kind of alcohol is acceptable. The only thing I've found is stuff that is either impossible to obtain, or that I have to buy by the gallon. Can I use 91? Isopropyl alcohol from the drug store? Ethyl Alcohol? Do I have to do something super special?

I would use perfumer's alcohol for best results. Snowdrift Farms carries a couple of different ones. http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/perfume.html

Ok thank you so much! I'd seen their site, but wasn't sure if I HAD to have their specific formulation or if it were easier than that

Depends on how much water you are using in your formula. Here is where I get my alcohol supplies for colgone.
