Teach Soap

So, there has been a lot of preservative talk going around the forum lately... I'm a beginner with a fairly expansive line that includes MP, solid lotion, shampoos, bath bombs, bath jelly, etc. As of yet I haven't used any preservatives, although I know it will be necessary for the bath jelly once I make it public due to the gelatin content. While the cheat sheet here (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5032) is incredibly handy for deciding what preservatives to use with lotions, soaps, etc., I still don't understand when preservatives should be used and when they're not required. (For instance, yes with gelatin, no with cocoa powder, no with oatmeal, etc.)

Is there a cheat sheet for this somewhere? Thanks everyone!

Anytime there's a chance of water being introduced to the product, you will need a preservative. Which preservative will depend on which ingredients are used. Soaps themselves do not need a preservative.
For example oatmeal in soap, no. Oatmeal in lotions or creams yes.
