I have a co-worker that would like a spray for her yoga mat since she does heated classes and she wants to spray it down after to help discourage bacteria growth. Anyway I've googled it and there are a few recipes out there most of them use Tea Tree EO and Lavender EO which I have on had and I know both are anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. My question is most of the recipes use 1 pt water and 1 pt witch hazel. Does this need a preservative because of the water content? I would hate to make some for her and have it go bad right away. Any thoughts?

Anytime you add water to a product, it is best to use a preservative. Witch hazel does have some alcohol which will help, but it depends how much witch hazel you use.

I think it will end up being about 1/4 cup witch hazel and 1/4 cup water... but I could up the ratio of witch hazel to water if needed.

I would go 4 ozs. of with hazel to 2 oz. of water. Then add minimum preservative required per manufacturer's recommendation.
