How To Make Homemade Body Butter
Recipe for 1 pound of Body Butter: 10 oz Shea butter 6 oz carrier oil 2 Tbsp. Cornstarch 5 oz Fragrance oil or .16oz essential oil. Container with tight-fitting lid
1. Melt Shea butter using the double boiler method. If you do not have a double boiler, substitute a heatproof bowl placed over the top of a pan of boiling water. Remove from heat when the Shea butter softens and is easily stirred with a spoon. 2. Add the carrier oil of your choice. You may use olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, almond oil or vitamin E oil or a combination of two or three oils in equal amounts. The addition of the oils keeps the Shea butter from hardening when it cools. 3. Mix in the cornstarch and fragrance oil. The cornstarch will keep the finished product from being too greasy. Transfer to a bowl for beating with a hand mixer or pour into a blender. Whip on highest setting until the mixture resembles whipped cream and forms peaks similar to meringue, or about 10 minutes. If the mix is not thick enough add an additional 10 minutes. You may need to do this a few times to achieve the right consistency. 4. Spoon the whipped body butter into decorative jars with a tight fitting lid.
Hope it works for you! Deborah
