Hi, all,

I just received a larger order of rose floral wax and I want to incorporate it into a body butter recipe. However, rose floral wax is very hard- similar to beeswax when hard, but melts more easily than beeswax when in a balm (I've made lip balm with it before). However, the kind of texture I get with rose floral wax in a lip balm isn't what I had in mind for a body butter. Any tips on a good percentage? I'd like the final product to be something I can place in a jar, not in a solid lotion tube. Admittedly I have no experience with waxes in body butters; I have only made body butters out of whipped oils and plant butters. Thanks for any replies!

So this is the basic lotion bar recipe from Teach soap.

4 ounces mango or shea butter
4 ounces beeswax, yellow or white
5 ounces liquid oil (jojoba or grapeseed are both excellent)
2 teaspoons of essential oil or fragrance oil

This makes a pretty solid bar, so if you want something softer I would start with just one ounce of wax and then do the testing method where you put some spoons in the freezer and dip them into your melted recipe to see how the formula will set-up. That way you can adjust the body butter by adding more wax or more oil to your recipe before you pour it into your containers.

Hope this helps!
