Is it possible to use liquid lecithin in place of emulsifying waxes in lotions? If so, what is the proportion to oils? Thankyou

No, not at all. I've not made lotions before, except from a kit which had everything ready to use.

If that's the case, I would stick with e-wax for now.

I hope this post isn't so old that no one see this....but I love lecithin as an emulsifier. I make CP soap, but I have no idea about using lecithin in soap. I do however make lotions and creams for personal use and lecithin is my favorite emulsifier. It can be used along with e-wax or as the only emulsifier. And it thins out very nicely in the microwave to add to the oil phase of your product.

summerluvin, sorry I've taken so long to reply to you. I'm on dialup, and our phone line has been VERY dodgy this past week. All fixed now, I hope.
When you use lecithin, do you reduce the amount of ewax, or is it as well as? I attended a skin care class 10 years ago, and was told lecithin could be used, but at twice the amount of wax. As that is my only experience of making lotions, apart from a kit, I need all the info I can get. I just want to make it for personal use, so I'm happy to experiment, but input from those with experience makes it easier.

E-wax is a complete emulsifier. You don't need to add lecithin.

Hey Suzanne,

I use lecithin in addition to other emulsifiers and alone. I mix a little of this, a little of that, etc. and have been doing it so long that I can "eyeball" it, but if you use enough lecithin, you don't need ewax or another emulsifier. The best thing about lecithin is that has benefit for the skin in addition to being an emulsifier.

You might want to reconsider the "the bits of this & that" and keep good measurements & notes. If you come up with something that you love, you want to be able to duplicate it.

That's true. I have made some products that have been perfect and then couldn't remember how I made them! Very frustrating at first, but as I said, I have been doing it a long time and that doesn't happen anymore. What was fun was that I had some fortuitous 'accidents' and it helped me gain more skill and knowledge.
