Teach Soap

I have to admit ladies, I am a Lush fiend!!!! Since I am trying to dupe certain items without stepping on any toes; I am coming across ingredients that don't make any sense to me. As of this moment; I am trying to make a shower jell w/ the recipe that is listed on the teach soap site. (yay!!) Anyway, I googled SLS and it states that this is a poison. Is this true? And if so, what would I use in place of that and where what is another name for SLS? Propplene Glycol? Glycerine? Can you even purchase any of these products? Methylparaben, Linalool, Limonene, Carrageenen extract? And they're talking about infusions....huh? I must be an idiot because I'm not even sure if pectin is the same thing as gelatin!!! What about Germaben II? I am so confused!!! Sonya

SLS is Sodium lauryl sulfate. It's a surfactant and a detergent. It's in a lot of shampoos on the market.
You could use SLSA, which is Sodium Lauryl Sulphoacetate. It's much milder. You can find it online.
Carragean comes from moss. Methylparaben is a preservative. Germaben II is a preservative as well.
Not all preservatives play well with each other. In cooking, pectin is used as a thickening agent, just like gelatin.
